1 What Are Tokens?
PoGO Alerts Network uses a regional token system to fund and distribute scanning capacity across geographic regions. Tokens are the currency that powers our scanning infrastructure, allowing you to directly support the regions you care about most.
Tokens represent scanning capacity that you can allocate to specific regions. Your tokens help fund the scanning workers (accounts) that actively patrol regions looking for spawns, raids, and events 24/7. The number of workers in a region depends on its size, density, and the total community token support.

4 Understanding Region Health
Each region has a health status that indicates the quality and reliability of scanning coverage. Health is determined by the ratio of active tokens compared to the optimal token count needed for full operation.

70 to 99%
- Scanning slightly below full rate.
Thinly supported
Below 70%
- Scanning well below full rate, so spawns look sparse.
No support yet
No tokens
- Can mean no scanning at all once the start-up period ends. Tokens on the area bring scanning back.
How Region Scanning Works
Each region has an optimal token count calculated based on:
- Region size: Larger geographic areas require more workers
- Point density: Number of spawn points, gyms, and pokéstops to monitor
- Route complexity: Coverage paths workers must patrol
- Operational costs: Infrastructure expenses per worker
5 Managing Your Tokens
The Token Allocation page is where you place a token on an area, move it, or buy more. Placing and moving tokens walks through it step by step.
- Monthly tokens, from your plan or a pack, renew with your billing and stay on the areas you put them on.
- One-time tokens expire 30 days after you buy them.
- A newly built area scans at full rate during its start-up period while it builds support. A token you place there can be taken back within 24 hours. After that it stays until the start-up period ends or 30 days pass, whichever comes first.
