Discord Connection Problems

Troubleshoot Discord linking, DM delivery, role sync, and bot issues.

1 Common Discord Issues

Discord integration is essential for receiving alerts. Here are the most common issues and their solutions:

Linking Issues

Can't connect Discord account

DM Problems

Not receiving alert messages

Role Sync

Roles not updating in server

Bot Blocked

Bot can't send you messages

2 Discord Linking Problems

Having trouble connecting your Discord account? Try these solutions:

"Authorization failed" or blank page after clicking authorize

1

Clear your browser cookies and cache, then try again

2

Try using a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge)

3

Disable browser extensions that might block popups or redirects

4

If using Discord in-app browser, copy the link and open in your regular browser

"This account is already linked to another user"

1

Your Discord account is connected to a different PogoAlerts account

2

Log in to the other account and unlink Discord first

3

If you can't access the other account, contact support

Discord popup doesn't appear

1

Check if your browser is blocking popups and allow popups from our site

2

Disable any ad blockers temporarily

3

Try logging out of Discord in your browser, then try linking again

"Invalid OAuth2 redirect URI"

1

This is usually a temporary server issue. Wait a few minutes and try again.

2

If the issue persists, contact support with the exact error message.

3 Not Receiving DM Alerts

If your Discord is linked but you're not receiving alert messages:

1

Verify DM Settings in Discord

Discord may be blocking DMs from bots. Check your Discord privacy settings:

  1. Open Discord Settings (gear icon)
  2. Go to "Privacy & Safety"
  3. Enable "Allow direct messages from server members"
  4. If that's already on, check the server-specific settings in our Discord server
2

Check Server-Specific Settings

Even with global DMs enabled, server-specific settings can override them:

  1. Right-click our Discord server in your server list
  2. Select "Privacy Settings"
  3. Enable "Direct Messages"
3

Ensure You Haven't Blocked the Bot

If you previously blocked the PogoAlerts bot, you won't receive DMs:

  1. Check your blocked users list in Discord settings
  2. Search for "PogoAlerts" or the bot's name
  3. Unblock if found
4

Check Alert Configuration

Your alert filters might be filtering out all alerts:

  1. Go to your Profile page
  2. Review your DM alert settings
  3. Make sure you have Pokemon or alert types enabled
  4. Check that IV/CP thresholds aren't set impossibly high
5

Check You Are Still in the Server

Discord only lets our bot message you while you share a server with it, so leaving the PoGO Alerts Network server stops every DM. Ten failed deliveries in a row also switches your alerts off automatically — if that has happened, rejoin and contact us and we will turn them back on.

Test Your Setup: After making changes, wait a few minutes for a spawn in your region. If you still don't receive alerts, try sending a test message from your profile settings.

4 Role Synchronization Issues

Discord roles indicate your subscription status. If your roles aren't updating correctly:

How Role Sync Works

Subscribe or renew
Sync runs (up to 15 min)
Roles updated

Roles not appearing after subscribing

Role sync runs periodically and may take up to 15 minutes. If roles don't appear after 30 minutes:

  • Verify your Discord is linked on your Profile page
  • Check that you're a member of our Discord server
  • Try unlinking and relinking your Discord account

Lost roles after subscription renewal

If your subscription renewed but roles were removed:

  • There may have been a brief lapse in your subscription
  • Wait 15-30 minutes for the next sync cycle
  • If roles don't return, contact support

Wrong role tier showing

If you have a different role than your subscription level:

  • Verify your current subscription on the Subscriptions page
  • Role sync uses your active subscription, not pending changes
  • After upgrading, wait for the next sync cycle
Manual Sync: If you need roles updated immediately after a subscription change, contact support via Discord and they can trigger a manual sync.

6 Bot Blocked or Can't Message You

If our bot can't send you direct messages, you won't receive any alerts. Here's how to fix it:

You're in our Discord server

The bot can only DM users who share at least one server with it. Make sure you've joined our official Discord server.

Bot isn't blocked

Check your Discord blocked list (Settings → Privacy & Safety → Blocked Users) and ensure our bot isn't listed.

DMs from server members enabled

In Discord Privacy Settings, ensure "Allow direct messages from server members" is turned ON.

Server-specific DMs allowed

Right-click our server → Privacy Settings → Enable "Direct Messages" for this specific server.

Quick Test: Try sending a DM to our bot first. If you can't message the bot, there's definitely a blocking issue on your end that needs to be resolved.

7 Community Add-On Server Issues

If you have the Community Add-On and are having issues with alerts to your server channels:

Bot not posting to configured channel

Verify the bot has proper permissions in the target channel:

  • View Channel
  • Send Messages
  • Embed Links
  • Attach Files (for images)

Can't find the channel in dropdown

Make sure the bot has been added to your server and has access to the channel you want to use. The bot can only see channels it has permission to view.

"Missing permissions" error

The bot's role needs to be positioned high enough in your server's role hierarchy to post in the target channel. Check Server Settings → Roles and drag the bot's role higher.

Alerts going to wrong channel

Visit your Subscriptions page to manage your Community Add-On channels and verify the correct channel is selected for each alert type.
