1 About Coverage Requests
PogoAlerts coverage depends on our scanning infrastructure and the availability of data for each geographic area. We actively work to expand coverage based on community demand and operational feasibility.
If your area isn't currently covered or you'd like to see expanded coverage in an existing region, you can submit a formal coverage request. Coverage requests require a funding commitment to ensure sustainable operation of the new or expanded area.
- You must be an existing subscriber or willing to subscribe
- New regions require a commitment to fund 75% of scanning costs
- Expansions cost as little as 1 token when the region is already well-funded
- New regions receive 100% worker coverage for the first 30 days
2 Types of Coverage Requests
New Region Request
Request coverage for an area that is not currently available in our system.
- Areas not currently on the coverage map
- New cities or towns
- Underserved suburban areas
Coverage Expansion
Request to expand the boundaries of an existing region.
- Extend region boundaries
- Add specific neighborhoods
- May be free if region is over 100% funded
Region Split Request
Request to split a large region into smaller areas.
- Large metro areas that need subdivision
- Distinct neighborhoods with different needs
- Funding depends on resulting region sizes
3 Funding Requirements
To ensure sustainable coverage, requesters must commit to funding a portion of the scanning costs. This ensures new regions have the resources needed to provide reliable alerts.
New Region Requests
You agree to fund 75% of the calculated monthly scanning cost for the new region. This is fulfilled through a combination of your subscription and one-time token purchases.
Expansion Requests
Every expansion costs at least 1 token. Above that floor the cost tracks how many extra workers the added ground needs, and the region's current funding level:
- Region over 100% funded: Usually the 1-token minimum, because existing subscribers already cover most of the additional scanning load
- Region under 100% funded: You'll need to contribute tokens to cover the gap plus the expansion cost
How Costs Are Calculated
After you provide the requested area boundaries, we calculate the scanning route and determine the number of scan points (jumps) required. The monthly cost is based on:
- Number of scan points - More points = higher cost
- Scan interval - How frequently the area is scanned
- Geographic complexity - Irregular shapes may require more resources
4 How to Submit a Request
Coverage requests are submitted through the Request Coverage page. You'll need a linked Discord account so we can create a discussion thread for your request.
Select Request Type
Choose between New Region (for areas we don't currently cover) or Expand Existing (to extend an existing region's boundaries). For expansions, you'll also select which region you want to expand.
Enter Request Details
Provide a Proposed Name for the coverage area (e.g., "Downtown Seattle" or "North Austin") and a Description explaining why this area would benefit from coverage.
Estimate Interested Users
Enter your best estimate of how many users would benefit from this coverage area. This helps us prioritize requests and plan capacity.
Draw the Coverage Area
Use the interactive map to draw the boundaries of your requested area. Click the polygon or rectangle tool on the right side of the map, then click points to outline the area. Double-click or click the starting point to complete the shape.
Review Important Information
Before submitting, review the important information box which explains:
- New regions require 75% funding commitment
- New regions receive a 30-day grace period with 100% worker coverage
- Expansions cost at least 1 token, more when the extra ground needs more workers
- A Discord thread will be created for your request
Submit Your Request
Click the Submit Request button. A Discord thread will be automatically created where you can discuss your request and receive updates on its status.
You must have a Discord account linked to your PogoAlerts profile to submit coverage requests. This allows us to create a discussion thread and communicate with you about your request status. Link your Discord account if you haven't already.
5 Tips for a Successful Request
The request form captures all required information automatically, but here are some tips to help your request get approved quickly.
Writing a Good Description
- Explain the community need - Mention local Pokemon GO groups, raid activity, or Community Day participation
- Highlight notable locations - Parks, downtown areas, popular spawn points, or event venues in the area
- Be specific about boundaries - Even though you draw on the map, mentioning major streets or landmarks helps us verify the area
- Estimate users realistically - A reasonable estimate helps us plan capacity
Drawing the Area
- Be precise - Draw boundaries that accurately represent the area you want covered
- Consider geography - Rivers, highways, and other natural boundaries often make good region edges
- Don't over-extend - Larger areas cost more to scan; focus on the core area you need most
- Use edit tools - You can modify your shape after drawing using the edit and delete tools
Example Description
"Downtown Riverside has an active Pokemon GO community with 200+ members in our local Discord. We host weekly raid trains at the Mission Inn and regular Community Day meetups at Fairmount Park. The area bounded by CA-91, CA-60, Chicago Ave, and University Ave contains most of our active player base. We estimate 50-75 users would benefit from alerts in this area."
6 After Submitting Your Request
When you submit your request, a Discord thread is automatically created for discussion. You can track your request status on the Request Coverage page under "My Requests".
Discord Thread Created
A discussion thread is automatically created in our Discord server. You'll receive a link to the thread where you can discuss your request with the community and team.
Request Review
Our team reviews your request, evaluates the area boundaries you drew, and calculates the scanning route to determine coverage costs.
Cost Estimate Provided
You'll receive a detailed cost estimate in your Discord thread showing:
- Monthly scanning cost for the region
- Your required 75% funding commitment
- Recommended token purchase amount
Your Confirmation & Payment
If you agree to the cost, confirm your commitment and purchase the required one-time tokens. These are valid for 30 days from purchase.
Region Goes Live
Once implemented, the new region receives 100% worker coverage for 30 days regardless of actual funding level. This gives you time to allocate tokens and allows the community to discover and support the new region.
Health-Based Scaling Begins
After the 30-day grace period, worker allocation adjusts based on region health. Continue funding the region with monthly subscription tokens or additional purchases to maintain optimal coverage.
